Mike Mongo’s Astronaut Job Camp gives today’s students permission to imagine themselves in tomorrow’s jobs in space. (And maybe even to become a Humannaire, one of the world’s first kid astronauts!)
Mike Mongo’s Astronaut Job Camp 2021 at Shetland Space Centre is looking for students ages 10–12* who are space STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics)-directed and determined to become space professional, and students who who are serious about becoming one of the Humannaires, the next-generation of space explorers from Planet Earth (and potentially the world’s first Kid Astronauts).

Student participants to Mike Mongo’s Astronaut Job Camp are students who are ages 10–12 possess talents for STEAM, creative thinking, problem solving, team play, and emotional intelligence. With a focus on JEDI space–that is space that is Just, Equitable, Diverse, (and) Inclusive, student participants may well become the architects of tomorrow’s space future.

Mike Mongo’s Astronaut Job Camp 2021 at Shetland Space Centre is a virtual summer space STEAM camp staged from July 5-July 30 with places for 180 students, the make-up of which will resemble 50 student participants from Scotland, 50 student participants from England, Ireland, and Wales (afternoon elective due to 2021 school schedule), and 50 student participants from North America. The are 30 additional seats reserved for students from around the world, for a total of 180 potential (virtual) seats for 180 possible candidates.
AJC 2021 takes place over four-weeks, eight classes for each of three sessions. Each session has 60 students and each session is set up specifically for geography, school schedules, and time zone:
- Monday & Thursday AM (morning) session for Scotland et al.
- Tuesday & Friday AM (morning) session for North America et al.
- Monday & Thursday PM (afternoon) session for England, Ireland, and Wales et al. (After-school elective.)
Both AM sessions are two-hours long, twice a week.
The afternoon PM session is one-hour long, twice a week.**
** This PM session is for students who are still in school during July.
Registration to Mike Mongo’s Astronaut Job Camp (AJC), available to students ages 10–12*, is a two-step registration process. (Registration fees for the AJC’s inaugural class are being generously paid for by Shetland Space Centre and Wildland conservation project.) Here are the registration steps:
- Step 1. Parents or guardians sign-up and approve their student’s participation at astronautjobcamp.com.
- Step 2. After parents or guardians register, an emailed link is sent where students fill out their own registration profile.

The contributions of the AJC Curriculum Advisory Board will support student participants who have a legitimate passion for subjects and interests such as space, STEAM, environment, conservation, sustainability, society, and pursuing your dream in space, and who are pursuing a craft or skill to bring to their training to be a Humannaire and one of the world’s first kid astronauts.
