“Quarantine is space mission training!”

United Launch Alliance and Astronaut Teacher reveal
The HUMANNAIRES Initiative in recognition of student accomplishments on One Year Mark of US Pandemic Quarantine

April 12, 2021

CAPE CANAVERAL, FL — In 2020, US students went home for spring break and never went back. Now a solid year later, as vaccinations and new safety practices have allowed students and teachers to begin their return to schools across the US, space author/educator Mike Mongo and United Launch Alliance (ULA) are partnering to acknowledge the accomplishments of our students and their part in getting us here–with the launch of The Humannaires Initiative.

US students have endured and persevered through one of the greatest challenges to education ever faced. The challenge of learning and schooling in the face of COVID-19 put extraordinary demands upon all our students–demands noticeably similar to the rigor required of space mission training. Acknowledging the flexibility, perseverance, discipline, and creativity our students have practiced and developed throughout the pandemic, all skills which can serve today’s students well towards space STEAM jobs and career successes (including astronaut and space explorer) The Humannaires Initiative kicks off with an award.

“After a solid school during pandemic quarantine, we are declaring every student as now officially being “in-training” for space missions. Every student who signs up will be awarded by email their own personalized and frameable Humannaires Letters of Acknowledgement and Certificates of Accomplishment,” says Mongo, “If students choose to pursue it, everyone of them are real potential future candidates for working in the space industry. We are calling these next generation of space professionals “humannaires”.

Students can sign up to have their Humannaire Letter of Acknowledgement and Certificate of Accomplishment simply by submitting their name, age, and an email address at humannaires.org [humannaires.org].

“Like ULA’s mission to harness space for humanity,” says Mongo, “the mission of The Humannaires Initiative is to give student’s the permission to make life on Earth as sustainable, equitable, and connected as humanly possible — for all Earth’s residents and our co-inhabitants–by solving for space.”

Reframing pandemic quarantine and the skills students have successfully developed in the face of VUCA conditions–conditions which were Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous–US launch services provider ULA and author of The Astronaut Instruction Manual Mike Mongo are unveiling The Humannaires Initiative, a program to acknowledges student accomplishments with Certificates of Accomplishments and even support students in the further development of space STEAM skills.

ULA is the nation’s most experienced space launch company with more than 140 consecutive launches and a 100% mission success rate. ULA brings the utmost precision, passion and purpose to one of the most technically complex, critical American needs: affordable, reliable access to space. Making progress above, ULA is harnessing the potential of space for humanity.
